Mikel Arteta expressed confidence in his conscience regarding Manchester City's recent financial breaches. An independent commission revealed that City inflated their revenue by £830 million from 2009/10 to 2017/18. The club has appealed the findings and maintains its innocence. Arteta, who served as Pep Guardiola's assistant during part of this period, affirmed his clear conscience when questioned about the situation.

In a press conference, Arteta faced numerous inquiries about the City verdict but chose to refrain from further comments until the appeal concludes. He acknowledged the lengthy process and emphasised the need for resolution. Arteta stated that he would provide a clearer perspective once the matter is settled, trusting that the responsible parties will manage it appropriately.

Arteta spent three-and-a-half seasons at City, contributing to their successes, including back-to-back Premier League titles and several domestic trophies. The independent commission specifically noted that City inflated their sponsorship income by £264.3 million during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, coinciding with significant player acquisitions. Arteta declined to say if his memories of his time at City had been affected by the recent developments.

Despite the controversy surrounding City's verdict, Arteta remains proud of Arsenal's recent achievements, including their Premier League title victory. He described the emotions tied to their success as unique and genuine. Arteta believes the Premier League will continue to be the best league globally, although he acknowledged concerns raised about its integrity in light of the findings against City.
