Birmingham City demonstrated their promotion ambitions with a convincing 4-0 victory over Preston North End at St Andrew's. The match saw August Priske score twice, while Liam Millar and Demarai Gray added to the tally. This result marked Birmingham's third win in four matches and their first home victory of the season, solidifying their position in the Championship standings.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Jay Stansfield's clever pass set up Patrick Roberts, who delivered a cross for Millar to finish. Birmingham then struck twice in quick succession during first-half stoppage time, with Priske capitalising on a defensive lapse to score his first and then curling in a second moments later after a quick counter-attack.
Preston's situation worsened when Stan Mills received a second yellow card early in the second half, leaving the visitors to play with ten men. Despite some attempts to respond, including a close chance from Max Bird, Preston struggled to regain control. The match became increasingly difficult for them as Birmingham continued to press forward.
Birmingham sealed their dominant performance with a fourth goal in the 77th minute. Taylor Gardner-Hickman set up Gray, who skillfully curled the ball into the net, marking his third goal of the season. The result leaves Preston at the bottom of the table, having secured just one win in their last ten matches, highlighting their ongoing struggles in the league.
