West Ham United faced a frustrating 1-1 draw against QPR, with Jarrod Bowen's stoppage-time penalty saved by goalkeeper Pierce Charles. The Hammers had the opportunity to take the lead in the Sky Bet Championship but were unable to capitalise. Nicolas Madsen opened the scoring for QPR with a penalty awarded under contentious circumstances, putting West Ham on the back foot early in the match.

The first half saw West Ham struggle to create chances, managing only two shots with a low expected goals value. Tomas Soucek, making his season debut after an ankle injury, was involved in the controversial penalty decision. He challenged Paul Smyth in the box, winning the ball but was deemed to have fouled the QPR player by referee Ruebyn Ricardo, leading to Madsen's penalty conversion.

West Ham improved in the second half, with Bowen equalising after a blocked shot. Despite their resurgence, they could not find a winner as Bowen's follow-up from a penalty was saved by Charles. Bowen's initial penalty was awarded after Amadou Mbengue tugged at Pablo's shirt, but Charles displayed quick reflexes to deny the Hammers a late victory.

Soucek expressed his disbelief at the penalty decision, stating that the referee admitted to making a mistake after the game. He felt the decision had a significant impact on the match and was disappointed by the lack of communication from the referee during the game. Despite the draw, he noted the importance of securing at least a point for the team.

Nuno Espirito Santo acknowledged the team's poor start but praised their ability to respond after going a goal down. He highlighted the need for better performance, particularly after the international break, and admitted that the penalty decision was not a good one. The draw leaves QPR in fifth place in the Championship, while West Ham missed the chance to move to the top of the table.
