Brighton thrash Coventry 5-0 in Premier League clash

Coventry City faced a disappointing return to the Premier League, suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at the CBS Arena. The Seagulls took control early in the match, with Charalampos Kostoulas scoring the opener just before half-time. Malick Yalcouye extended the lead shortly after the break, and a red card for Taiwo Awoniyi further compounded Coventry's woes, leaving them unable to recover from the mounting pressure.
Brighton started the match strongly, registering the first seven shots within the first 20 minutes. However, Coventry responded with a flurry of chances, hitting the target ten times in the first half. Despite their efforts, it was Kostoulas who struck first, punishing Coventry's inability to convert their opportunities. Bart Verbruggen, Brighton's goalkeeper, made crucial saves to keep the hosts at bay throughout the opening period.
The second half saw Brighton capitalise on their advantage when Yalcouye scored, and soon after, Awoniyi was sent off for an elbowing incident. Pascal Gross converted a penalty awarded for a foul on Kostoulas, making it 3-0. Lewis Dunk then added a spectacular fourth with a long-range effort, before Yasin Ayari capped the scoring in stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive victory for the visitors.
Brighton, now sitting fourth in the Premier League, showcased their attacking prowess and defensive solidity, with Dunk's stunning goal highlighting their performance. Coventry, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table without a point or a goal to their name. Despite the defeat, Coventry's fans showed unwavering support, but manager Frank Lampard acknowledged the need for improvement in both finishing and defensive organisation as they adjust to the top flight.
