Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Everton, marking the home side's first defeat of the Premier League season. Pedro Neto scored both goals in the second half, netting just 43 seconds after the restart and again in the 90th minute. The win also allowed Chelsea to achieve their first clean sheet in the league for nine months, showcasing a strong performance after a lacklustre first half.

The match featured a controversial moment when Chelsea's Morgan Rogers, already on a yellow card, avoided a red card after a challenge on Everton's James Garner. Former referee Mike Dean commented that Rogers' tackle warranted a sending off. The first half was marked by physical play, with five yellow cards issued, the most in a Premier League match since February.

Everton had a promising start but struggled to create opportunities in the second half, managing only one shot on target after the break. Their best chance came from Thierno Barry, who headed directly at Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez. Chelsea, on the other hand, hit the bar through Moises Caicedo before taking control in the second half, capitalising on their chances.

The match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Chelsea's goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who was taken off on a stretcher following a collision with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite. After nearly nine minutes of treatment, Martinez was replaced by 21-year-old Penders, who became Chelsea's youngest-ever Premier League goalkeeper. Despite the injury, Chelsea managed to maintain their composure and secure the win, pushing them into the Champions League places.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso praised his team's mature performance, emphasising the importance of the away win and the clean sheet. He acknowledged the need for continued improvement, stating that one clean sheet is not enough. Everton's manager David Moyes expressed disappointment with his team's lack of creativity and opportunities, highlighting the need for better performance in future matches.
