Coventry City secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at the CBS Arena, marking their first home win of the Premier League season. The Sky Blues' goals came from Jack Rudoni, Sidiki Cherif, Ellis Simms, and Stephen Mfuni, propelling them out of the relegation zone. Cherif's goal was particularly notable as it was his first for the club, showcasing the potential of the young squad under manager Frank Lampard.

Newcastle's hopes were briefly lifted when Sven Botman scored a stunning long-range goal in the 70th minute. However, Coventry quickly responded, with Simms scoring just 11 minutes after coming off the bench to restore the two-goal advantage. Mfuni capped off the evening with a fourth goal in the 86th minute, becoming Coventry's youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer in the process.

The match began poorly for Newcastle, who conceded an early penalty after goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek fouled Cherif. Rudoni converted the penalty in the sixth minute, giving Coventry an early lead. Despite Newcastle's attempts to equalise, including missed chances from Matias Fernandez-Pardo, they struggled to convert opportunities throughout the match.

Coventry's defence held firm, even clearing a shot off the line from Fernandez-Pardo after he rounded the goalkeeper. The Sky Blues displayed resilience, particularly after Botman's goal, demonstrating their ability to maintain composure under pressure. This victory comes after a challenging start to the season, where they had previously struggled to find form.

Looking ahead, Coventry aims to extend their winning streak against winless Tottenham next Monday, while Newcastle will seek to bounce back at home against Aston Villa on Saturday. Both teams will be eager to improve their standings as the Premier League season progresses.
