Fer Lopez capitalises on Nat Phillips error to secure Wolves derby win

Wolves secured a 1-0 victory against West Brom in their derby clash at Molineux, thanks to a second-half goal from Fer Lopez. The forward capitalised on a mistake by Albion defender Nat Phillips, who inadvertently passed the ball to Lopez shortly after the break. This marked Lopez's fifth goal of the season and ensured Wolves took home the derby spoils in a match that had been eagerly anticipated after 14 years without this fixture at Molineux.

West Brom's goalkeeper Max O'Leary played a crucial role in keeping his team in the match during the first half, making three impressive saves. He denied Wolves' Nasser Djiga with a spectacular stop in the 11th minute and later thwarted attempts from Mateus Mane and Marshall Munetsi. Despite O'Leary's efforts, Wolves dominated possession and created numerous chances throughout the game.

The match atmosphere was electric, with a crowd of 30,000 supporting Wolves. However, West Brom struggled to create significant threats against their rivals. Wolves maintained pressure on the Albion goal, with Lopez missing a chance just before the interval. After the break, he made no mistake when presented with the opportunity from Phillips' error, scoring with a deft shot over O'Leary.

Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto celebrated the victory, emphasising the importance of the win for both the supporters and the team. He praised his players for their organisation and quality, stating they created plenty of chances. In contrast, West Brom manager James Morrison acknowledged Phillips' mistake but expressed disappointment at his team's overall performance, particularly their inability to capitalise on opportunities and their tendency to play too cautiously.
