Jurgen Klopp in talks to succeed Julian Nagelsmann as Germany head coach

Jurgen Klopp is poised to engage in discussions with officials from the German Football Association (DFB) regarding the national team head coach position. This follows the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann after Germany's unexpected exit from the World Cup. Klopp, who previously managed Liverpool, confirmed his interest in the role during an interview, stating that the DFB had approached him about potentially taking over the position.

The DFB is reportedly confident about securing Klopp's release from his current role as global head of football at Red Bull. Klopp has a contract with Red Bull that extends until 2029, which includes a special exit clause specifically for the Germany job. He expressed that while he enjoys his current position, he is open to discussions with the DFB about the national team role.

Nagelsmann's departure came after Germany's defeat on penalties to Paraguay in the World Cup last-32 stage. The DFB thanked Nagelsmann for his commitment and ambition during his tenure, which began in September 2023. Under his management, Germany reached the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, but their World Cup campaign ended prematurely, leading to his resignation.

Klopp, who has not managed since leaving Liverpool in 2024, indicated he is ready to return to coaching. He acknowledged that while the timing may not seem perfect, he feels rejuvenated and prepared for the challenge. The DFB has confirmed its intention to discuss the role with Klopp, who many in Germany have long desired to see as the national coach.
