Live Subtitles and Descriptive Audio Commentary to enhance Sky Sports Premier League coverage
Sky Sports and Guinness launch services to improve accessibility for Premier League fans.
Sky Sports and Guinness have unveiled a new accessibility initiative aimed at enhancing Premier League coverage for blind, partially sighted, and hard-of-hearing fans. The initiative will feature Live Subtitles available for all matches broadcast on Sky Sports, as well as Live Descriptive Audio Commentary for selected fixtures throughout the season. This rollout represents the most significant accessibility enhancement across Sky Sports platforms to date, facilitating a more inclusive viewing experience.
Starting with matches on the weekend of October 10 and 11, viewers will be able to access Live Subtitles during every Premier League game shown on Sky Sports. Live Descriptive Audio Commentary will also be introduced for select fixtures, providing a continuous description of match action. This new commentary style aims to create a richer experience for supporters, closely resembling traditional radio commentary rather than sporadic audio descriptions.
The development of Live Descriptive Audio Commentary involved feedback from users and collaboration with accessibility specialists, including the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). This feedback was crucial in shaping the service to meet the needs of blind and partially sighted fans. The initiative is designed to ensure that all supporters can enjoy the excitement of live football, whether at home or in social settings.
Live Subtitles will allow deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers to follow commentary and analysis in real time. Both services can be easily accessed through Sky's viewing options, making it straightforward for fans to enable them during matches. The initiative reflects a commitment from Sky Sports and Guinness to make football more accessible and enjoyable for a broader audience, fostering a shared experience among fans.
