Luis Binks receives first Scotland call-up as new era begins

Luis Binks has expressed his long-standing desire to represent Scotland after receiving his first call-up to the national team. The Brondby defender, who has previously played for both Scotland and England at under-21 level, did not hesitate when new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli approached him. Binks is among six players who will make their full debuts in the upcoming Nations League matches against Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Switzerland.

Pocognoli has made it clear that he will not persuade players to choose Scotland, a sentiment Binks supports. He stated that he was always available and eager to play for Scotland, feeling a strong connection to the team. Binks recalled his previous experiences with the Scottish youth teams, highlighting the camaraderie and positive atmosphere that made him want to return to the national setup.

Scotland's squad has undergone significant changes under Pocognoli, with 12 players from Steve Clarke's World Cup squad missing out. Only a few players, including Scott McTominay and Che Adams, are absent due to injuries. Binks noted that while the environment is new, he is familiar with some teammates, including Aaron Hickey, with whom he shared time at Bologna.

The new era for Scotland begins with a match against Switzerland in Ljubljana, followed by a home game at Hampden Park. The team will then travel to North Macedonia and return to Glasgow for a rematch against Slovenia. Binks acknowledged the challenge of integrating new players and management but expressed optimism about the team's commitment to Pocognoli's vision for the future.

Scotland aims to regain its position in Nations League A after being relegated last year. Binks commented on the importance of unity and belief within the squad, emphasising the need for players to buy into the manager's strategies.
