Luis de la Fuente condemns Argentina’s post-World Cup final conduct

Luis de la Fuente, head coach of Spain, has strongly condemned the behaviour of Argentina players following the World Cup final, labelling it as "intolerable and unacceptable." This statement comes in light of FIFA's investigation into post-match incidents, including Leandro Paredes receiving a red card for violent conduct after the final whistle. Paredes was involved in an altercation with Spanish players Eric Garcia and Gavi.

The situation escalated further when Nahuel Molina attempted to disrupt Spain's Rodri during the celebrations. Additionally, Argentina's coach Roberto Ayala reportedly tried to punch Dani Olmo, which he later apologised for. De la Fuente expressed his surprise at the events, noting he was initially caught up in the celebrations with his own team.

Despite the chaos, the Spain squad maintained their composure, standing in a guard of honour for Argentina as they received their medals. However, the Argentine team controversially turned their backs during Spain's trophy celebration. De la Fuente praised his players for their professionalism in the face of aggression and provocation from their opponents.

FIFA has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate the incidents further. A statement from FIFA confirmed that details would be shared once the prosecutor's report is complete. Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez, who was sent off during the match, defended Argentina's overall conduct, emphasising the importance of pride and commitment in representing their country.
