Max Dowman has played just 90 minutes this season, but could go out on loan

Mikel Arteta has not dismissed the possibility of loaning out Arsenal's 16-year-old talent Max Dowman in the future. The manager stated that the club assesses Dowman's development every six months, indicating a careful approach to his progression. Dowman has made a notable impact by scoring twice in Arsenal's recent Carabao Cup victory over Ipswich, although he has not featured in the squad for the subsequent league matches against Aston Villa and Sunderland.

Arteta emphasised that the decision regarding a loan will depend on various factors, including Dowman's needs, the team's situation, and his performance during the limited minutes he has played. He noted that while many young players have thrived on loan, the right environment and belief from the coach are crucial for success. For now, Arteta wants Dowman to focus on making an impact within the Arsenal squad.

Last season, Dowman made headlines as the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history and the youngest player to start a match in the Champions League. His record-breaking achievements have drawn comparisons to other young talents, with former player Jay Bothroyd suggesting that Dowman deserves consideration for the England national team. Bothroyd believes that Dowman’s talent surpasses that of other players currently being considered for selection.

The Gunners have previously loaned out Ethan Nwaneri, who at 15 became the youngest player in Premier League history. Nwaneri is currently gaining experience at Borussia Dortmund after a stint at Marseille. This precedent indicates that Arsenal is willing to explore loan options for their young prospects, depending on their development and readiness for first-team football.
