West Bromwich Albion suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City at The Hawthorns, marking the end of their 10-match unbeaten home league streak. The loss was particularly painful for Albion defender Nat Phillips, who was responsible for conceding the penalty that led to Birmingham's victory. This defeat comes after Phillips had already made a costly mistake in the previous derby against Wolves, raising concerns about his form.

The match started with an intense pace, as both teams created early chances. Birmingham's goalkeeper, James Beadle, was forced to sprint outside his box to clear a potential threat after a mis-hit back pass from Phil Neumann. At the other end, Albion's Max O'Leary showcased his reflexes with a remarkable save from a close-range shot by Jay Stansfield, keeping the score level early on.

Albion had their opportunities to take the lead, with Felix Horn Myhre missing a clear chance by heading over the bar from a promising position. Callum Styles also came close with a low free-kick that required Beadle's intervention to tip it behind. However, the breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Phillips fouled August Priske, who converted the resulting penalty to give Birmingham the lead.

Despite trailing, West Brom pushed for an equaliser in the second half. O'Leary continued to impress with a superb save from Neumann's header, while Albion's attacking efforts included a long-range drive from Ousmane Diakite and a glancing header from substitute Barney Stewart that was also denied by Beadle. Birmingham's defence held firm, resisting the pressure from Albion's attempts to level the score.

The match concluded with Birmingham securing a vital win, while West Brom's James Morrison will need to address the defensive issues highlighted by the recent performances. Chris Davies' Birmingham City will take confidence from this result as they look to build on their success in the Championship.
