Southampton secured their second consecutive 1-0 victory, this time against Norwich City, who suffered their fourth straight defeat in the Championship. The Saints followed up their recent win over Portsmouth with their first away triumph of the season, thanks to Kuryu Matsuki's goal early in the second half. This result places Southampton in a solid position in the top half of the table, despite starting the season with a points deduction.

The match began with both teams creating opportunities, but Norwich had the clearest chance early on. Oscar Schwartau's effort went just over the bar after he cut inside Southampton's Zach Abbott. Southampton's goalkeeper Daniel Peretz made crucial saves to deny Mathias Kvistgaarden and Jacob Wright, while Norwich's Dan Grimshaw, making his league debut, also showcased his skills with a reflex save against Samuel Edozie's volley just before half-time.

The decisive moment came in the 54th minute when Southampton took the lead. Edozie made a strong run into the box, and after a scramble, Matsuki capitalised on a loose ball to score from close range. Norwich nearly equalised shortly after, but Lewis Dobbin's goalline block prevented Jose Cordoba from scoring. Southampton's Peretz continued to perform well, saving a low shot from Anthony Musaba as the Canaries pressed for a goal.

Norwich head coach Philippe Clement expressed disappointment, believing his team deserved at least a point from the match. He noted that while the players worked hard and were defensively solid, the performance of some substitutes in the final stages fell short of expectations. Southampton's Tonda Eckert praised his team's effort and acknowledged the challenge posed by Norwich, highlighting the importance of their hard-fought win.
