Cristiano Ronaldo has publicly addressed his recent walkout from the Portugal national team in a detailed statement, confirming his availability for future matches. The 41-year-old forward expressed his commitment to the national side, stating that as long as he is fit and performing well at his club, he will continue to compete for Portugal. His statement comes after questions arose about his international future following his departure from the squad before a Nations League match against Denmark.

Ronaldo's statement highlighted his dissatisfaction with the new head coach, Jorge Jesus, accusing him of breaking promises regarding playing time. He claimed that Jesus had assured him he would play 30 minutes in a previous match against Norway but ultimately did not call him onto the pitch. This led to Ronaldo's decision to leave the training camp, feeling that his trust had been violated.

The forward described a meeting held between himself, Jesus, and the sporting director of Al Nassr, Simao Coutinho, where they discussed the situation. Ronaldo noted that an eight-point document summarising their conversation was created, but he felt that Jesus's subsequent press conference did not reflect their discussion. Ronaldo stated that this was the second time Jesus had failed to keep his word, prompting his departure from the squad.

In his statement, Ronaldo apologised to his teammates and the Portuguese public for leaving the national team. He indicated his willingness to accept any punishment from the Portuguese Football Federation. Despite the controversy, he expressed hope that his international career would not culminate in a mere farewell match, stating that his focus remains on competing for his country. Ronaldo reassured fans that there would be time for farewell matches in the future, emphasising his dedication to the national team.
