Watford's struggles deepened as they suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against Cardiff City, marking their fourth consecutive loss. The Hornets conceded four goals in the first half, with Jack Moylan scoring twice, including an 11th-minute penalty. Moylan's performance helped Cardiff secure only their second win of the season, while Watford slipped into the relegation zone, now sitting 22nd in the Championship table.

The match started poorly for Watford when skipper Mattie Pollock fouled Moylan, leading to the penalty. Pollock then inadvertently scored an own goal from a corner in the 41st minute. Ollie Tanner added to the misery by scoring the fourth goal just before half-time, leaving the travelling Watford fans disheartened once again.

This defeat followed a 4-0 loss to Burnley, further intensifying the pressure on manager Alessio Dionisi. The fans expressed their frustration with chants aimed at the board and boos directed at the players and manager at the final whistle. Dionisi, who is the club's 12th manager since the 2020-21 season, acknowledged the team's need for a reaction after the Burnley game, which did not materialise.

Cardiff's Moylan was pivotal in the match, and although he had a chance for a hat-trick from the penalty spot in the second half, his effort was saved. Substitute Callum Robinson added a fifth goal for Cardiff late in the game. Watford managed a consolation goal through Hector Kyprianou, but it did little to alleviate the disappointment felt by their supporters.

Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, emphasising the importance of building momentum after a difficult previous match. In contrast, Dionisi reflected on the need for accountability within the squad, stating that the team must work together to address their ongoing issues. The defeat leaves Watford facing a challenging path ahead as they seek to turn their fortunes around.
