Rangers miss chance to go top after 2-2 draw with Dundee
Rangers were held to a draw, allowing Celtic to remain one point clear at the top of the league.
Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw by Dundee, missing the opportunity to take the top spot in the Scottish Premiership. Dundee struck first when Bradley Fink capitalised on a defensive error, rounding the goalkeeper to score. However, Rangers quickly responded, with Badredine Bouanani curling in a stunning equaliser to mark his first goal for the club.
The match saw Nico Raskin score a spectacular goal from outside the area, hitting the underside of the crossbar before finding the net. Despite this, Dundee equalised when Callum Jones intercepted a pass from Rangers captain Dan Neil, slotting home to level the score. The draw leaves Rangers in second place, just one point behind Celtic.
Dundee's manager, Steven Pressley, praised his team's performance, highlighting their aggression and control in the first half. He noted that despite facing pressure from Rangers in the second half, his players showed grit and determination to secure a point. Pressley acknowledged that they had opportunities to capitalise on but remained resolute throughout the match.
Rangers' boss, Derek McInnes, expressed disappointment at not securing all three points, stating that two goals should have been enough to win. He recognised Dundee as a good team but felt his side gifted them an opportunity to equalise. McInnes called for improvement, especially in creativity at the top end of the pitch, as they look to regain their winning form.
The result leaves Rangers trailing Celtic in the league standings, with Celtic set to face Hearts in their next match. As the season progresses, both teams will be keen to solidify their positions in the title race, with Rangers needing to bounce back from this setback to maintain pressure on their rivals.
