Southampton equalise with first shot on target as they draw 1-1 with West Brom

Southampton and West Brom played to a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns, with Samuel Edozie equalising in the second half. Both teams have maintained their unbeaten starts to the season following a match that showcased contrasting halves. West Brom dominated the first period, while Southampton improved significantly after the break, leading to an entertaining contest that saw both sides create opportunities to secure a win.

The hosts began strongly, with Isaac Price scoring from the penalty spot to give West Brom a deserved lead. Southampton struggled to cope with West Brom's pressing game and failed to register a shot on target in the first half. Despite West Brom's dominance, they could not extend their lead, with Price missing a chance to double their advantage shortly before half-time.

After the interval, Southampton turned the tide and found an equaliser through Edozie, who scored with their first shot on target. Ryan Manning's cross set up the chance, and Edozie capitalised to level the score. West Brom responded with attempts to regain the lead, including a close call from Callum Styles, whose header was cleared off the line by Jack Stephens.

Both teams continued to push for a winner, with Southampton missing a golden opportunity when Lewis Dobbin was denied by West Brom's goalkeeper Max O'Leary. The hosts also came close to clinching victory as Ousmane Diakite's counter-attack resulted in a shot that rattled the post. The match ended with both teams sharing the points, reflecting their strong performances throughout the game.

Managers James Morrison and Tonda Eckert acknowledged the contrasting halves and the quality of play from both teams. Morrison expressed disappointment at not securing a second goal, while Eckert noted the need for improvement in future matches. Both teams will look to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures as they aim to maintain their unbeaten runs.
