Eddie Nketiah's first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory for Crystal Palace against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, propelling the Eagles into the quarter-finals. The striker's deft flick from Oscar Mingueza's cross marked Palace's first shot of the match, coming on the 37th minute. This unexpected lead came despite Fulham's dominance in the first half, where they failed to convert several scoring opportunities.
Fulham controlled much of the game, creating numerous chances but struggled to find the back of the net. Alex Iwobi came close to equalising in the second half, forcing a crucial save from Palace's goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The home side continued to press for a goal, but their efforts were thwarted by Henderson's strong performance, particularly in the dying moments of the match when he denied Gonzalo Garcia's header.
Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa expressed disappointment at his team's inability to convert chances, noting that the match mirrored their previous encounter with Palace. He highlighted the need for quicker ball movement and better execution in the final third to break down Palace's defensive setup. Arbeloa acknowledged the challenge posed by Palace's low block and emphasised the importance of patience and aggression in their approach.
Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage praised Nketiah's potential, indicating that he has the ability to elevate his performances. Sage also commended Dean Henderson, who made a significant impact in his return to the team after a spell out. The manager recognised Henderson's leadership qualities and his crucial role in the team's defensive success, reinforcing the confidence the squad has in him.
